I’ve decided I really hate the term “Gamer Girl”, and I really only associate it with the girls that play video games just to gain some sex appeal. Sorry boys, contrary to the gamer girl pictures you see, I actually wear clothing while I play video games.

I bring this up is because when I play online I see so many girls trying to shout from the rooftops that they’re female and they’re so awesome because they have a vagina and they play video games.  They say it to try and prove that they can be one of the guys, but it comes off as a cry for attention.  That’s like someone announcing they’re not Asian while they’re playing Starcraft. Nobody cares. (excuse the stereotyping… but China and Southeast Asia blow us out of the water when it comes to Starcraft)

I’ll be the first to tell you that I am semi-awful at a majority of the games I play, but I don’t use the fact that I’m a girl as an excuse. Yeah, we’re a minority in a male-dominated hobby, but I have so much more respect for the girl that holds herself to the same standard as the rest of the boys rather than categorizing herself as some mythical creature that’s an asset just for being there.  If you don’t make a big deal about it, they won’t make a big deal about it, and then you won’t have to deal with the harassment and the messages from random guys. If you’re there for the attention, then you’re wasting your money.
